Duo Incarnadine
Pianist Tong Wang and cellist Leah Plave have performed throughout Canada, the USA, China, and Northern Europe, often specializing in lesser-known repertoire by women and contemporary composers. They met in Montreal (2017), where they first embarked upon a musical journey together as part of Z4 Piano Quartet. Sparked by winning the grand prize in McGill’s Chamber Music Competition, the ensemble performed and held artist residencies throughout Canada and in Beijing. Tong and Leah later performed diverse chamber music programs together as part of a Lincoln Center Stage piano quintet which toured the Pacific Northwest (USA) for over four months.
As founders and artistic directors of the Montreal Music Collective, Duo Incarnadine curated and performed monthly chamber music concerts for the city of Montreal from 2019-2020, all of which featured great works by under-represented and historically marginalized composers. In 2021, the pair were featured as performing artists at Le Festival International de Musique Universitaire in Belfort, France. As recent recipients of a generous Canada Arts Council grant, the duo will tour four cities in both Turkey and China to conduct fieldwork research, followed by an album recording, performance tour, and documentary featuring Turkish composer Fazil Say’s Four Cities sonata and a new commission by Chinese Canadian composer Alice Ping Yee Ho, inspired by four regions in China.
United not only by their commitment and love of music, Tong and Leah are loyal friends who share joy in cultural education, culinary conquests, and adventures in nature.
