DoSi Tour "Wanting to Start Again"

‘Wanting to Start Again’ is a violin-piano concert experience that addresses the complicated and difficult feelings that arise when living in a world being ravaged by climate change. This program arose from a feeling of hopelessness and grief fueled by the fires that happened in Banff and Halifax. We decided to create a space for audiences to sit with their feelings and ask themselves: how do we choose to start again when we are at our lowest? Our first iteration of this project was to great success at Duo Perdendosi’s 2023 residency at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, and has since been performed at the Ethnographical Museum of Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

DoSi (formerly Duo Perdendosi) is a classical and contemporary duo formed by pianist Tong Wang (https://tong-wang.com) and violinist Maitreyi Muralidharan (https://www.maitreyimuralidharan.com/). They use human-centric design and unconventional programming to foster spaces of connection and present works by immigrant and minority composers to honor their own immigrant backgrounds. Both coming from conservatory backgrounds, they recognized a need for classical and contemporary music to move away from convention and towards connection. In 2022, they created the Windwood Music Festival in Airdrie, Alberta to collaborate with like-minded artists and share how music connects land and people. DoSi embarked on their first tour, “Da Capo,” in April 2023 across seven cities in eastern Canada and the US. As residents at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance in June 2023, they presented a musical storytelling program, “Wanting to Start Again.” In May 2024, they performed their second tour, “Dark Tales,” funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, in Hungary, Romania, and Canada. Maitreyi and Tong took part in Barbara Hannigan’s Equilibrium program in August 2024, following their third season leading the Windwood Music Festival. They are based in Montreal and regularly perform around Canada, collaborating with performers, composers, and multidisciplinary artists. DoSi continues to enjoy discovering a “fresh perspective on the familiar” alongside their audiences.
